Chinese state media has called complaints made by foreigners against Wuhan’s huge pool party “sour grapes.”

Recently, photos and videos of Wuhan residents enjoying a huge pool party went viral on the internet. The pictures show hundreds of people enjoying a pool and not even one of them wearing a mask.

The pool party was celebrated at a water park music festival in Wuhan, wherein thousands of people can be seen shoulder to shoulder. The coronavirus outbreak was first reported in Wuhan and later spread to the rest of the world.

The photos and video immediately withdrew some negative comments and criticism and several foreign media outlets started to report about the party under headlines such as “China’s big party”, and “life’s a beach in Wuhan as world pays virus price.”

In response to the negative criticism, the Chinese state media Global Times dismissed the attack on the Wuhan pool part as “sour grapes.”It further said that Wuhan was “now welcoming an influx of tourists, and its economy is reviving, which residents believed should not only be seen as a sign of the city’s return to normalcy but also a reminder to countries grappling with the virus that strict preventive measures have a payback.”

Wuhan was put on lockdown after a coronavirus outbreak was confirmed. After 76 days, the lockdown was eased in April 2020, which was the time by which the rest of the world had started to suffer from the economic loss as well as the loss of lives due to the coronavirus disease.

China has been the center of criticism over the COVID-19 crisis and has been blamed for not sharing facts related to the outbreak during the early days. Several politicians and public health experts have said that sharing timely information would have prevented the global loss in terms of economy and lives.
