Two of the most recognizable figures in professional soccer, legendary Santos and Brazilian National star Pelé along with current Real Madrid scorer Cristiano Ronaldo remain highly visible in the public spotlight. Though Pelé officially ended his playing days in 1977 following unbelievably successful campaigns with Brazilian club Santos, the New York Cosmos and his native National Team, the former forward is still regarded as the best player to ever grace the pitch. Registering over 600 goals in nearly 20 seasons with Santos and another 77 international goals, the Três Corações, Brazil native put together a brilliant career that stacks up with the all-time greats in all professional sports.

While Pelé – whose full name is Edson Arantes do Nascimento – may no longer lace up his boots at the age of 73, Real Madrid and Portuguese National icon Cristiano Ronaldo is able to continue his stellar career, while drawing comparisons to the legend. Recently claiming the 2013 Ballon d’Or Award for the second time as a professional, the former Manchester United star continuously finds himself in the discussion for ‘best player in the world,’ a conversation that always links him to present Barcelona scorer Lionel Messi. Putting together a 2013 campaign in which he registered 69 goals in just 59 matches, the 29-year-old was completely moved when presented with the highest personal honor in the game of soccer.

“I am deeply moved,” the Madrid forward said after receiving the award in January. There are no words to describe how I feel," said Ronaldo, who won the prize despite winning nothing with either club or country in 2013. I'm delighted, I want to thank all my team-mates, all my family in the room. Those who know me know how many sacrifices I made to win this reward. I want to thank all those who had faith in me and I want to speak again about Eusebio and Madiba (Nelson Mandela) and to pay tribute to them one last time. Each time is different. But I would say that this second Ballon d'Or is more emotional, because my mother and my son are here.”

Though Ronaldo and Pelé take the game of soccer to heart with a passion that is unrivaled, the legendary stars recently teamed up for a funny commercial promoting Emirates Airlines. In the featured advertisement – which can be seen below – CR7 and Pelé are enjoying a pleasant ride aboard an Emirates plane when two passengers begin talking about one of the soccer legends. Thinking they’re speaking of himself, Ronaldo smiles upon hearing the kind pleasantries of the two gentleman, only to realize the men are discussing the accolades of Pelé when the now-retired star appears from the back of the plane.

In a funny game of ‘who’s more famous,’ Ronaldo and Pelé perform their parts to a tremendous degree while helping Emirates promote their growing brand.
