Donald Trump took a jab at Meghan Markle after the former duchess released a video with Prince Harry seemingly endorsing Joe Biden. The video also sparked criticism in Britain, where members of the royal family are expected to be politically neutral.

“We’re six weeks out from the election, and today is Voter Registration Day,” said Meghan. “Every four years, we’re told the same thing. ‘This is the most important election of our lifetime.’ But this one is. When we vote, our values are put into action, and our voices are heard,” she added, urging Americans to “vote our values.”

In August, Meghan Markle also said in an interview that she intended to vote, saying she knows what it’s like to have a voice and to feel voiceless. “I also know that so many men and women have put their lives on the line for us to be heard,” she said. “And that opportunity, that fundamental right, is in our ability to exercise our right to vote and to make all of our voices heard.”

Prince Harry also urged Americans to do the same, asking them to “reject hate speech, misinformation, and online negativity.” While the royal couple did not refer to Trump or Biden in the video, many observers took their remarks as a plug for Biden and a slap at Trump. Many from the U.K. also interpreted the video as a thinly veiled endorsement of Trump’s Democratic rival.

Speaking from the White House on Wednesday, Trump slammed the former Duchess of Sussex when asked for his reaction to the video. “I’m not a fan of hers,” he said. “I would say this—and she has probably heard that—I wish a lot of luck to Harry because he’s going to need it,” he added.

Meanwhile, Buckingham Palace distanced itself from the issue when asked to comment on Prince Harry and Meghan’s recent video. In a statement, the Palace said the two are no longer working members of the royal family and described Prince Harry’s comments as “made in a personal capacity.”

Prince Harry and Meghan stepped down as working royals in 2019. They have been ensconced in an L.A. mansion since leaving the U.K.
