Dulce María was asked to share her opinion about Julión Álvarez’ recent comments degrading women during a meet-and-greet with her fans at a restaurant located in La Condesa, Mexico City earlier this week.

“What I have lived with him, he has been a real gentleman and he treats all women incredibly,” the 30-year-old singer told reporters.

The former RBD got to spend some quality time with the regional Mexican singer last year, during the studio recording and music video shooting of the single “Lágrimas,” included in her album “Sin Fronteras.”

Álvarez became a Twitter trend earlier this week when several publications reported the singer was making “machista” statements about women, saying he liked “women that can pick up a mop,” and arguing that you can have all the beauty in the world, but “if you can’t do that, he can’t work with it.”

When the Chiapas native tried to defend himself, he didn’t necessarily help his cause much. “A good woman is a woman who stays in the house, and yes, the woman I have, or the one I would want to have, or the one I happen to have at the time, should be able to do everything.”

Did someone say “Mexican macho”?

On social media, fans and followers have taken over the subject and while some of them think he was out of line, other state people are just too hyper sensitive these days.

“Julion Alvarez said he needs a woman that knows how to mop and now they are taking it totally out of context. People these days. #Chill!” wrote Mayra Esquivel.

Twitter account @DonPorfirioDiaz mentioned, “Someone tell Julion Alvarez that this is not the New Spain anymore, and that women can now vote.”

Latin Times reader Ben Inclán said, “When a man refers to women as "the one I happen to have at the time, and can pick up the mop", he is a machista, misogynist, chauvinist, and every other adjective used for men degrading women.”
