Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto lamented the failure of the American Justice system in the execution of Mexican citizen Edgar Tamayo Arias at Wall Prison on Wednesday night. The execution sets a "bad precedent" said the Mexican leader speaking from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. He lamented the decision of the Texas court, however, he recognized the cooperation of the US Department of State in the matter.

"The Foreign Ministry has set a very clear position of diplomatic support, regretting the fact that proper legal proceedings were not respected and identifying the failure of the international justice court, yet we recognize that the U.S. federal government supports and endorses this issue to ensure due process is properly observed in the future," stated Peña Nieto. He also emphasized the fact that the failure to recognize the International Court's proceedings sets a bad precedent for future cases.

"Unfoturnately it involves a Mexican citizen, but it it is a precedent set for any case of a citizen from any nation, which excuses or justifies the non-application of due processs or the non-application of justice," the President concluded. Edgar Tamayo Aria, 46, was executed for the murder of Houston police Officer Guy Gaddis in 1994. The case attracted notoriety after it emerged that Mr. Tamayo was not informed of his right to seek consular assistance.
