Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, Kate Del Castillo and Sean Penn’s Rolling Stone scandal keeps getting more and more complicated as days go by. According to Page Six, the Mexican and the American government have been talking about a possible trade. After the magazine named Del Castillo as the connection between “El Chapo” and the Hollywood actor, Mexican officials have been trying to find a way to get to the actress.

“The Mexican government was embarrassed that they had told the U.S. authorities that they didn’t know where ‘El Chapo’ was, then two actors from Hollywood were able to find him,” a source told Page Six. “After the Rolling Stone piece came out, they wanted to swap ‘El Chapo’ for Kate. They want to embarrass her.”

The 43-year-old actress, who is known for not having pelos en la lengua, made very strong declarations against the Mexican government back in January, which made everyone believe they were coming after her. “I don’t have to give the media any explanations. If I’m not saying anything is because my lawyers advised me not to do so because the government wants to destroy me, no matter what,” she told Univision.

Del Castillo’s lawyer, Harland Braun, told Page Six that “there is no mechanism for such a handover” and that U.S. authorities would not be able to that under any circumstances because she has not been accused of any wrongdoing. At his arrival at Mexico City’s airport earlier this week, Kate’s dad, Eric Del Castillo revealed his daughter “will collaborate with authorities [when the right moment comes]. She hasn’t been called, and they have nothing against her in the U.S., the problem is here [in Mexico],” he told TVyNovelas.

On the other hand, both governments have been discussing the possibility of Guzmán’s extradition for quite some time now. The Sinaloa Cartel leader’s lawyers have been pushing towards the translation due to the alleged terrible conditions their client is facing at the Altiplano maximum-security prison. During a recent press conference, they announced they are even willing to reveal the hefty list of politicians who have benefited from the drug lord’s money if they do not agree to meet their needs.

It looks like the Mexican Government has some compromising decisions to make.
