Federal Judge, Victorino Hernández Infante, has ordered Mexican authorities to provide medical attention for inmate Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán. The infamous drug lord, who was recaptured in Los Mochis, Sinaloa on January 8, has been complaining about the treatment and living conditions at the Almoloya maximum-security prison in Mexico, where he has been confined for the past 2 months.

According to El Milenio, Guzmán’s lawyers took the complaint to court because their client suffers from high blood pressure and gastritis, and the lack of medical aid could lead to a heart attack or dead in prison. Hernández Infante pointed out that el capo should be able to contact his attorneys at all times for this matter and he should not be quarantined under any circumstances.

Guzmán’s legal team written petition suggested their client was a victim of abuse and sleep deprivation, which have inevitably contributed to his illnesses. The agreement provided by Judge Hernández reads as follows, “We ask for complete termination of consistent acts of lack of communication, torture, segregation, confinement, lack of medical attention, and cruel and inhuman treatment, which have been the main reasons behind Joaquín Guzmán Loera’s complaints, as well as any other acts that could potentially put his life in danger.”

During a recent interview with Telemundo, “El Chapo’s” wife, Emma Coronel Aispuro, confessed she was worried about her husband’s health. “We don’t know if he is eating well. We don’t know what his situation is,” she told journalist Anabel Hernández. The 26-year-old beauty queen, who shared some stories about her latest conjugal visit, also hinted to a possible attempt against her husband’s life, “They should explain why they’re playing around with his health,” she added.

Recent reports revealed Guzmán would plead guilty in the United States in exchange for medium security incarceration.
