Is Enrique Peña Nieto Sick? Andrés Manuel López Obrador Questions Health Status Of Mexican President

Enrique Peña Nieto's health is rumored to be suffering, according to social media. "There is a rumor that EPN is sick. I neither believe it, nor wish it to be true. " This was posted by PRD leader Andrés Manuel López Obrador on his Twitter account on Thursday. Indeed, Enrique Peña Nieto was in hopsital for a few days. He had surgery, however, he quickly recovered and returned to work. The Mexican President has just travelled to Portugal an is in seemingly good health.

However, this hasn't stopped Mexian media from attacking Andrés Manuel López Obrador (known coloquially as AMLO) for spreading the rumor on social media. "I remember once when AMLO was sick, Enrique Peña Nieto sent a message on Twitter wishing him a speedy recovery," says Federico M. Arreola from SDP Noticias. "However, [Peña Nieto] waited until the illness was confirmed, but not before. Although the rumor had spread very early on, the president waited until it was confirmed."

Enrique Peña Nieto is on a tour of Europe which will cover Portugal, Spain and the Vatican, where he will meet Pope Francis. The Mexican media have noted that the statesman looks somewhat thinner than usual, however, there has been no official comment from the President or his family. "Hopefully AMLO will understand that a man of his stature should not deal in rumors and gossip," continued Arreola. "The main protagonists of the political debate in Mexico will have to learn to be intellectually honest."
