Authorities arrested five teenagers on suspicion of murder for allegedly stabbing a man to death on the day he celebrated the birthdays of his twin daughters.

James Gibbons, a 34-year-old father of four, was stabbed outside his Laindon, Essex, home just after 9.30 p.m. on Sunday.

Locals said that Gibbo was having a barbecue party with his family when he heard a commotion from his backyard in Laindon, Essex.

"There were a gang of kids seen drinking around the estate all day making a nuisance of themselves," a neighbor told an online tabloid.

Another neighbor said that the kids were riding scooters around and that one person had asked them to "keep it down," which started a fight.

Gibbons bravely interfered when he saw the incident. Teenagers then attacked him while trying to stop the juvenile gang from beating the homeless man.

Gibbons then died on the spot amid paramedics' efforts. They found several stab wounds.

According to BBC, Det Ch Supt Steve Jennings urged anyone with details to call the police on 101.

Three boys and two girls, aged 13 to 16, were arrested, according to police. They have been granted police bail and will be released later this month.

Mr. Gibbons' family described him as a caring father who always looked out for less fortunate people.

His friend said Gibbons even offered some food to the homeless man before the incident.

In a statement released through Essex police obtained by The Guardian, Gibbons' family said James was an amazing father of four young children. The family added that James, engaged to his partner of 11 years, was a loving and supportive son and brother.

"James was a hardworking, family-oriented man, who ran his own bathroom fitting company and was looking forward to a positive future for him and his family," the statement said.

According to his loved ones, James was a wonderful man and is always prepared to help anyone less fortunate than himself. They added that the children have lost their father because of that incident.

Meanwhile, James’s fiancé's friends have set up a GoFundMe page.

"A lot of us school mummies have decided to set up this GoFundMe page to raise money for Vicky and the 4 children after the devastating news of James’s death," they explained.
