The show’s third season just wrapped up with the airing of its finale titled “The Spy Who Loved Me,” but fans are already itching to know one thing — will there be a “Lethal Weapon” Season 4? Some people actually did an analysis of sorts on the odds of the show’s renewal for the next season, and according to its conclusion, the chances of it happening are pretty good.

One of the things that could prevent a show’s renewal is when its main actor suddenly decides to call it quits or is let go for whatever reason. In fact, back then the show’s third season was in danger of being canceled, with actor Clayne Crawford’s exit from the series. Thankfully, the show continued when another bankable actor, Seann William Scott, joined the cast playing a brand new character and somehow successfully filling in the spot vacated by Crawford’s character.

A potential problem arose when actor Damon Wayans, who plays Roger Murtaugh in the series, unexpectedly announced in October last year that he wanted to quit the show for personal reasons. As one of its main actors, his departure would have spelled trouble for the series to the extent that a fourth season renewal would have been uncertain.

But more recent clues point out to the possibility that Wayans might be shelving his plans to quit the series, at least for now, paving the way for a “Lethal Weapon’ Season 4 renewal. One such clue is executive producer and creator Matt Miller’s statement to Deadline, where he confirmed being in contact with the actor’s rep. “I think it’s going to be a conversation, a negotiation, but I’m very hopeful that he will return,” he said.

In the same interview, Miller even revealed that he already has some ideas on which direction “Lethal Weapon” Season 4 could be heading. “I’m very excited about the possibility of going to Season 4,” he told the publication. “Season 3 ends with a little bit of a nod in that direction, and we have a pretty big concept, pretty big idea for Season 4,” he added.

Another factor that could be a big one for the show’s renewal is its finale’s ratings. But episode 14, titled “A Game Of Chicken,” earned a high rating, and if the momentum carries over to the finale episode, it shouldn’t be a problem either.

It is also worthy to note that Fox Entertainment seems eager to have the show back on track. “I think that the show has hit its stride, and it has done quite well,” Fox chair Charlie Collier said, commenting on its performance after the cast shakeup.

Of course, the fact remains that the final say on the matter will always be the show’s studio. At the moment, however, there is no official confirmation on either a renewal or cancelation of “Lethal Weapon” Season 4. Be sure to stay tuned for more updates.
