Republican Rep. Carlos Gimenez slammed Colombian President Gustavo Petro as the two clash while tensions between the two countries continue to escalate.

The latest feud between the two revolves around a statement from Petro, who in a recent interview said President Donald Trump had to "change his heart" or risk being removed from power.

Gimenez reacted on social media, claiming Petro was calling for Trump to be "overthrown." "Petro's threats must be taken seriously, he is a genuine threat to the safety & security of our hemisphere," the lawmaker said.

Petro retorted, saying he was not making any threats. "I'm just saying that Trump must change his heart, going from defending policies of death in the world like the Palestinian genocide, for policies of life. If that change doesn't take place, then the American people will change Trump, because one can't go towards general suicide," he added.

Gimenez, however, rejected the claim, saying "I don't know if is that the drugs you take have damaged your brain or if it's wanting to have the spotlight." "You say one thing and then contradict yourself. You've shown to be a clown that has dearly costed the people of Venezuela," he said.

Petro upped the ante, responding and saying "the insult indicates the size of the brain." "The harshest the insult the lower the brain." Gimenez, on his end, said "if it's about brain size, yours must be hollow."

"I don't know if it's the cocaine or the mushrooms making you post these messages at 2 am. You got to go to rehab. We can recommend you a good one here in the U.S.," Gimenez said.
