Mexican actress Irma Lozano died this morning from cancer at the age of 69. The performer had found out about her condition only a few months ago, when she experienced an acute pain in her mouth that doctors mistook for a toothache. However, specialists later found a tumor on her cheek, which had to be removed. Lozano underwent chemotherapy, but lost the battle with cancer. She was born Susana Irma Lozano González on August 24, 1944 in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. As a teenager, she won a scholarship to study drama in the Fine Arts institute in Mexico but it wasn't until 1963 when she debuted as an actress in the play "La Luna es Azul" with Mauricio Garcés.

That same year she made her debut on TV in the telenovela "La culpa de los Padres." She was also on the original version of "Madres Egoístas," "María Isabel" and "Rubí," but many also remember her as Graciela Mauri's mother in the first telenovela for kids, "Mundo de Juguete." Her most notable work was in the original version of "Yesenia" in 1971, "El amor tiene cara de mujer" in 1972, "Honrarás a los tuyos" in 1979,

"Vivir un poco" in 1985, "Rosa Salvaje," and "Mi Segunda Madre" in 1987 and 1988 respectively. She was also in "Marisol" (1996), "Carita de ángel" (2000), "La Intrusa" (2001) and "Misión S.O.S." (2004).

Most recently, she is remembered for her participation in "Destilando Amor." Not only was she a telenovela queen, but Lozano also did movies and even dubbed Barbara Eden's voice for the Spanish transmission of "I Dream of Jeannie."

She married twice, first with actor José Alonso, with whom she procreated a daughter, María Rebeca -- also an actress. Her second marriage was to Omar González, with whom she had a son, Rafael Omar, who grew up to become an actor as well. Lozano's children were the ones taking care of her in her last days. Her last acting jobs were in "Un gancho al corazón," "Palabra de Mujer," and in "Mujeres Asesinas," in 2010. She will be remembered as one of the greatest actress of her generation.
