New York Mets pitcher Jeurys Familia has been in hot water this week over a domestic violence altercation arrest that took place in Fort Lee, New Jersey.

According to the New York Times, “police found there was probable cause that Familia, 27, one of the Mets’ most important players, caused “bodily injury,” specifically a scratch to the chest and a bruise to the right cheek, to an unidentified person.”

Familia, who was arrested, was released on a $1,500 bail early Tuesday morning. He has been charged with simple assault.

Major League Baseball is investigating the manner and Familia has yet to issue a statement. Manager Terry Collins also opted not to speak on the manner. The last few seasons have seen numerous MLB players been suspended for domestic violence such as Aroldis Chapman and Jose Reyes.

Right now there are far more questions rather than answers. The accuser has not yet been identified, and no witness statements have been made public. The 27-year-old Dominican-born pitcher lives with his wife and son in Fort Lee. The exact pin-point location and time of the possible incident has also not been identified, however N.J.com has reported that it happened at an apartment in Fort Lee. Here’s where things get tricky, although the person who charged Familia has not yet been identified, sources have said that his wife had scratches and a bruise.

Newsday Sports reporter Jim Baumbach Tweeted recently that Familia’s court date would be change per his request. That court date has now been schedule for Nov. 10.

Familia has improved his game every season since entering the league in 2012. This previous year he led all of MLB with (a Mets franchise record) 51 saves. This also marked the first time in his career that he was voted to participate in the annual All Star Game. But now, without a long-term contract, his future with the Mets remains a big question mark.
