The dedicated fans of Justin Bieber couldn't stand a disturbing Twitter trend last Monday and made it clear how obsessed they are for the pop singer.
The prankster website 4Chan started trending the term #CutForBieber, days after some photos of the teen icon supposedly smoking pot were published.
"Let's start a cut yourself for Bieber campaign," wrote an anonymous user on a 4Chan message board, according to Billboard. "Tweet a bunch of pics of people cutting themselves and claim we did it because Bieber was smoking weed. See if we can get some little girls to cut themselves."
The posting of many self-harm photos, both real and fake according to Gossip Cop, have caused a wave of outrage from posters.
Some of the tweets include:
"Cut for Bieber? [Seriously]?" said one user. "Suicide jokes are not funny on any level."
"#CutForBieber is not something cool," another wrote. "Some people actually are going through self-harm and can't stop. Have some respect for those people."
"Although #CutForBieber was created by the humble denizens of 4chan, I wouldn't be surprised if some teenage girls out there actually did it," one user wrote.
Others, however, took the prank as is, posting photos displaying people cutting anything but themselves.
According to Billboard, the 4Chan website tried and removed posts asking users to post those awful photos. The prankster site is said to have started the #BaldForBieber trend in October, allegedly saying Bieber had cancer and asking fans to shave their heads as an act of support to the teen singer.
Foxnews.com reported that child and adolescent psychologist Dr. Jennifer Hartstein said although most users know the "Cut for Bieber" prompt was a prank, the affects will likely not go away quickly.
"It's really a very challenging message to counteract, especially it being in relation to Justin Bieber," she said. "If someone self injurers there is an addictive quality to it."
Hartstein added self harm is very common among Bieber's fans, teenage girls.
"Self injury is a huge issue amongst the teenage population - especially girls. Some statistics show one in four teenage girls try self injury."
So far, Bieber has not commented on the #CutForBieber posts or on his photos allegedly smoking pot.
