'La Reina Del Sur' Received Pilot Order For English-Language Adaptation
The Telemundo telenovela hit starring Kate del Castillo, 'La Reina Del Sur,' has received a pilot commitment for the USA network. Telemundo

"La Reina Del Sur" has been one of Telemundo's biggest telenovela hits ever. Based on the Arturo Pérez-Reverte best seller, the limited drama series starred Kate del Castillo as a woman that becomes one of the most powerful drug traffickers in Spain. The powerful drama made the Spanish-network beat main rival Univision and forced them to make changes to their programming to counter-attack, which was useless as "La Reina" became the queen of the ratings. Now, Telemundo sibling network USA is teaming up with Fox Television Studios to produce a pilot according to The Hollywood Reporter. The script for "The Queen Of The South" will be written by M.A. Fortin and Joshua John Miller and executive produced alongside David Friendly ("Little Miss Sunshine") and Pancho Mansfield ("Damien").

"We are excited to bring this global best-selling thriller to our viewers,” USA president Chris McCumber said. "'Queen Of The South' is a suspenseful twist on a dramatic tale of love and betrayal that examines the desperate choices people make when lives are on the line." News of this comes months after NBC and USA announced they would be developing adaptations of "El Señor De Los Cielos" and "Señora Acero," respectively. The former finished off a successful sophomore season on the Spanish-net, with a third season already underway. The latter series just premiered this with with Blanca Soto as the star, and has had a healthy launch.

This week two worlds collided during the premiere episode of "Señora Acero" as Aurelio Casillas "El Señor De Los Cielos" made a brief appearance. Rafael Amaya made a cameo on the new "super-series"playing the iconic character that we all love and adore. Casillas dropped in during Sara (Blanca Soto) and Vicente's (Damián Alcazar) wedding unexpected. He was not there for trouble as usual, but he did bring some company along with him. As a wedding gift he brought the bride and groom "Los Tucanes de Tijuana" to play during the ceremony. He exchanged a couple words but did not have any scenes with Soto's character. The appearance was less than a minute, but it was just enough to get us excited. Watch the crossover here!
