There remains no official word on “Kingdom” season 3, made even worse by the fact that there is no official update of the Korean horror series getting renewed. It has been more than 8 months since season 2 wrapped up and the popularity of the series should easily make it a prime candidate to have another season.

Hence, “Kingdom” fans will just have to wait and see. There are a lot of factors in play, particularly the dreaded pandemic which has made it difficult for showrunners and cast members to buckle down to work. However, a bit of good news is that there is a special episode reportedly coming out in 2021 in “Kingdom: Ashin of the North.”

Kingdom: Ashin of the North” is set to come out in 2021, something that will build upon the story introduced in season 2. It appears the story will be exploring the character of Gianna Jun, portrayed by Jun Ji-Hyun. To catch a glimpse of that special episode, check out the trailer below.

Other than that, pondering on a third season for “Kingdom” will be tough to forecast. The previous seasons took 18 and 13 months to produce so the best to expect is by the end of 2021 at the earliest.

Hence it becomes the waiting game is in play. Aside from the fact that there is no word on a season renewal, screenwriter Kim Eun-hee revealed to the Hollywood Reporter that there is a whole lot more to tell.

"Strangely enough, Kingdom is a series that gives me more energy the more I write it. The cast and crew all have great chemistry, and there's so much more to tell. If viewers allow, I would love to see it develop even up to season 10," Kim said.

Among the character roles for “Kingdom” season 3, one that people may want to pay close attention to is Jun Ji Hyun. Kim bares that she will become a central role alongside the main characters from season one and two.

But perhaps the most important part of it all of “Kingdom” is on whether a cure will come out. Seobi spent the seven years trying to discover a cure for the undead plague but has so far had no luck.

There is also the discovery that submerging a victim in water destroys the worms. There is very little progress and if it is set for more seasons, that is likely to take some time. But of course, it has to get renewed first.
