A 25-year-old man allegedly murdered his mother before killing himself inside their house in India's capital city Delhi on Sunday night, Sep. 4.

According to the police, the mother, who remains unidentified, was allegedly killed two-three days ago and her corpse was found lying in the bathroom of the family's home in Rohini. The son later killed himself, said police.

The apparent murder-suicide came to light after neighbours sensed foul smell emanating from the inside of the house.

"The investigating officer reached the spot and found the main door bolted from inside. Staff broke into the house from the balcony and found a man in a pool of blood. A body of a woman was found in the washroom; it was highly decomposed," Pranav Tayal, Deputy Commissioner of Police, told the Indian Express.

"We also found a suicide note of about 77 pages at the spot written by (the man). In the note, (he) admitted that he killed his mother on Thursday. Later, he died by suicide. We sent crime teams and forensic science lab teams to the spot. Legal action has been initiated in the case," added the DCP.

The suicide note recovered from the crime scene indicated that the man had been long battling depression and wanted to end his life because he was also unemployed.

The exact cause of death remains unclear as autopsy results were being awaited.

This is an ongoing investigation and no further details were revealed at the time of this writing.

In a similar incident, a 24-year-old Indian woman allegedly murdered her four-year-old daughter before trying to kill herself at the family's home in Bengaluru’s HAL area on Aug. 23, said the Karnataka police.

The tragedy comes weeks after the woman's mother-in-law died by suicide, they added.

Gayathri Devi and her daughter, Samyukta were found unresponsive inside a bedroom in their apartment when her husband, Narendran forced open the door at around 4.30 am on Monday, reports said.

Narendran said that he was sleeping when he heard some noise from the adjacent room. He went to check what it was and found the doors locked from the inside, local media reported.

Both victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared the child ‘brought dead’.

The woman is continuing to receive treatment at the hospital and was reported to be recovering.

The hospital authorities alerted the police and an investigation was initiated.

Investigators said they have recovered a suicide note in which Gayathri stated that she was unable to handle trivial issues and had developed suicidal thoughts, since the time her mother-in-law killed herself.

However, she had feeling that no one would take care of her daughter after her death and decided to kill the child before attempting suicide, police told local media.
