A man has been accused of brutally stabbing his wife to death after she reportedly refused to cook food for him in South Delhi, India on Monday, June 13.

The suspect, identified as Dharmender, 25, who works as a cleaner at a restaurant, was reportedly an alcoholic who engaged in frequent heated arguments with his wife Renu, a domestic helper, over demands for money to buy alcohol.

On Sunday, June 12, Renu reportedly did not cook dinner for Dharmender and left for work the next day without informing him. Infuriated by his wife’s behavior, the man walked to a nearby store and bought a knife. When Renu returned home later that day, she once again refused to cook food for the suspect. Dharmender, in a fit of rage, allegedly picked up the newly purchased knife and began stabbing his wife multiple times, Hindustan Times reported.

After knifing Renu to death, Dharmender immediately fled the scene. Law enforcement subsequently rushed to the scene after being alerted by the couple's neighbors and transported the victim to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, Renu was declared dead upon arrival at the facility.

Following the heinous incident, a case under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at the Mehrauli Police Station against the accused. Meanwhile, deputy commissioner of police (south) Benita Mary Jaiker confirmed that Dharmender remains at large, but a manhunt has been launched to take him into custody.

In a similar but unrelated incident, a drunk man has been accused of brutally strangling his own wife to death over a slight delay in serving him dinner in Sector 141 of Central Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India on Jan. 24, Latin Times reported.

The accused, identified as Sonu Kumar, 35, a security guard by profession, is reportedly an alcoholic and engaged in frequent fights with his wife Sharda Devi, 33. On late Monday, Jan. 24, Kumar allegedly threw a fit after coming home drunk, following Devi's inability to serve him dinner on time.

Enraged, Kumar strangled his wife to death using a shawl he wrapped around her neck. He immediately fled the scene after the killing. Upon hearing Devi’s screams for help, neighbors rushed to the residence to lend her aid. However, by the time the group reached the scene, Kumar had already left. The neighbors immediately rushed Devi to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, she was declared dead upon arrival at the facility.

The police have registered a case against the accused under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 302 (murder) and took him into custody near Sector 142 Metro station.
