Meghan Markle has been married to Prince Harry for more than a year now, but she still seems to be unable to live up to the standards of the royal family. According to some royal followers, her struggles come as a result of Kate Middleton having set the bar too high for her.

In a recent interview, Meghan admitted her struggles adjusting to royal life. From the intense media scrutiny to the negative press about her and her family, Meghan admitted that coping with everything has been a struggle for her.

Unlike Meghan, it didn’t take a while for Kate to adjust to royal life. Having been married to Prince William for more than nine years, Kate is undeniably the darling of the British press today and seldom can one read a negative write-up about her. Many believe that Kate is just far more admirable for the public than Meghan is that the Duchess of Sussex is now struggling to live up to her standards.

For royal follower John Butters, that is possibly so. He said that unlike Meghan, Kate has learned well from Princess Diana, so she understands the need for good discretion and conducts herself superbly in public. “Meghan may not have realized that there is a royal pecking order,” he said.

“Her failure to bring her dad closer. She and her husband have not helped themselves by accepting all the material gains of their status but expect too much privacy over Archie and the christening. Their seemingly hypocritical attitude over so-called global warming yet jet setting so much for pleasure does not sit well with the U.K. general public,” he added.

A publication noted that it might also have to do with Kate having grown with the royal family, unlike Meghan, whose relationship with Prince Harry was a whirlwind romance. Unlike Meghan, who never got to be exposed to royal life for a long time, Kate has been with the royal family for years. She met Prince William in 2001 and was able to be acquainted long enough with the ways of the royal family before their marriage.

Royal follower Shomeli Dev noted that Kate initially didn’t find royal life easy too. However, she was able to adjust well because she and Prince William dated for years before they jumped into marriage.

“It’s less of a ‘bar’ and more of a ‘goal post’ which shifts and changes depending on who you ask,” she said. “It was the same when HRH Cambridge was a new bride herself and nothing she did was good enough,” she added.

Meanwhile, some royal followers believe that Meghan’s struggles don’t have anything to do with the standards that Kate has set. “No, it’s not the Duchess of Cambridge that has done anything,” said Millie Gaitenalla. “This is my opinion about the Duchess of Sussex, she needs to stop being Hollywood, stop resisting this family and their traditions, stop trying to run everything to suit her,” she added.

Denise Tanner also believes that Kate didn’t set any standards at all because she didn’t arrive on the scene a fully formed duchess. The royal follower noted that while she came from a wealthy middle-class family, she still had to learn how to carry out her role in a manner that befits her position when she married Prince William. This, according to him, is what makes her different from Meghan.

“She (Kate) has taken advice from the Queen, other members of the royal family and numerous advisors,” she said. “If Meghan is struggling it’s because she believes she has nothing to learn. She was going to hit the floor running. Unfortunately, she has tripped herself up and fallen flat on her face!” she added.
