At least four people were shot early Friday morning outside of The Flow Bar and Lounge in Miami, Florida, police confirmed. The shooting reportedly took place on the street following an argument and altercation inside the club. The cause of the argument is unknown. Witnesses told local media that the club was shut down shortly after 5am following gunfire. Images of the neighborhood taken after the incident show a black SUV punctured with bullet holes. Multiple reports confirm that a waitress at the Flow Bar sustained at least one gun wound. A bouncer reportedly aided her by tying off her wound.
Located at 2450 NW 36th St., The Flow Bar and Lounge sits at the heart of Allapattah, a lower income area between the Miami International Airport and Wynwood. The neighborhood’s large Dominican population earned it the nickname “Little Santo Domingo.” The Lounge bills itself as “lo más duro” (the most hard, or hardcore) club in Miami. No arrests have been made, and police say that the shooter is still at large. All victims were shot in their extremities and are expected to recover.
Other’s in the Allapattah area haven’t been so lucky. A spate of shootings has killed or injured Miamians in and around Allapattah this year, including least 4 teens and children who were injured or killed in separate shootings in space of 10 days in March. The most shocking cases were the shootings of 16-year old Richard Hallman and 10-year old Marlon Eason, who were shot in Allapattah and neighboring Overland, respectively, on the same night. Parents and activists have called for greater cooperation between residents and police, as well as increased vigilance by local residents. Police have stepped up community relations efforts and offered rewards in the killing of the youths, but have made no arrests.
