Sub-Director of Municipal Police in Indaparapeo, Michoacán, Fatally Shot

Mexican authorities confirmed today the death of Víctor Manuel Velázquez Castillo, who served as the Deputy Director of Security of the Municipal Police in Indaparapeo, Michoacán.

According to the official report, the attack happened on the road to Queréndaro.
Infobae reported that the state attorney's office "started an investigation into the murder of Víctor Manuel Velázquez Castillo, deputy director of the municipal police of Indaparapeo."

The incident took place after his shift had ended. Velázquez was driving in his personal vehicle when he was ambushed by gunfire, according to preliminary data from the Michoacán Attorney General's Office. Social media circulated images of the vehicle, apparently a red Nissan, overturned and riddled with bullet holes.

The state Secretariat of Public Safety (SSP) reported that the attack occurred around 1:00 p.m., and following the incident they deployed inter-institutional operations in the area. These included aerial surveillance and mobile inspection modules along the Morelia–Maravatío highway. i

At the time of reporting, no arrests had been made in connection with the killing of Velázquez. The authorities have launched an investigation to identify the attackers and determine their criminal affiliations.
