Musk's AI Chatbot Challenges White House's Spending Bill Support Over

Elon Musk's artificial intelligence chatbot Grok disputed claims from the White House that the GOP's "one big, beautiful bill" contained over a trillion dollars in savings.

During a press briefing, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt defended the legislation, asserting it would not add to the deficit and would, in fact, generate $1.6 trillion in savings—making it "the largest savings for any legislation that has ever passed Capitol Hill."

However, Grok offered a starkly different assessment. In response to a user inquiry on X, Grok cited independent analyses from the Tax Foundation and the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget (CRFB), which estimate the so-called "big, beautiful Bill" could add between $3.3 trillion and $5.3 trillion to the national deficit over the next decade, largely due to sweeping tax cuts.

"There is no clear evidence from the Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) to support the White House's $1.6 trillion savings claim," Grok stated. "Evidence leans toward a deficit increase, not savings."

Grok has increasingly been called upon to fact check statements from the Trump administration, including Musk, Grok's creator and head of DOGE. Musk's own chatbot — which is purportedly free of human bias — contradicting the administration's messaging has spurred on opposition who see Grok's dissent as validation.

Meanwhile, the GOP has been tasked with addressing the ballooning federal deficit while maintaining tax cuts. Debate around the bill continues with House Speaker Mike Johnson looking to take the bill to the House floor for a vote before the end of the week.
