Juan Gabriel Rodriguez-Preciado, 43, has been accused of facilitating the illegal trafficking of cocaine in kilograms between a Mexican cartel and a regional drug trafficking organization (DTO) run by 35-year-old Adian Barth, of Chesterfield, according to the United States Department of Justice.

Preciado reportedly stayed at Barth's Richmond residence during the months of July and August in 2019, to assist him in a cocaine drug trafficking conspiracy. Over the next two months, Preciado allegedly distributed approximately 10 kilograms of cocaine per week to members of Barth’s DTO. Preciado reportedly collected an approximate amount of US $30,000 per kilogram from this and funneled the illegal money back to Mexico.

“The jury’s verdict holds the defendant accountable for dangerously facilitating the distribution of significant quantities of cocaine between an international drug cartel and a regional drug trafficking organization,” Raj Parekh, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia said.

“I’m really proud that my team was able to help shut down this significant, international drug trafficking operation that threatened the health and safety of Virginians,” Mark R. Herring, Attorney General of Virginia said.

Preciado is facing a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and a maximum of 60 years in prison.

Meanwhile, Barth has been sentenced to 225 months in prison for charges of conspiracy to distribute, possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of cocaine.
