House Speaker Nancy Pelosi thinks that the U.S. President Donald Trump’s behavior is similar to a man “who refuses to ask for directions.”

Her comments came on Thursday, July 16, as a part of a request to the White House to seek advice or rather “directions” from the scientific leaders in the U.S. to control the COVID-19 pandemic and reverse the daily increase in the number of coronavirus-related infections and deaths.

On Friday, the U.S. reported the highest even number of coronavirus infections in the country as it passed the 70,000 daily marks for the second time. The current total stands at about 3.68 million and the number of deaths due to COVID-19 in the country is expected to touch 1.5 million soon.

Pelosi urged Trump to invoke the full power of the Defense Production Act to increase the supply for coronavirus testing and COVID-19 treatment in the country as the hospitals across many U.S. states are increasingly finding it hard to battle the pandemic. Several hospitals are about to reach their full bed capacity, while others are already occupied fully with COVID-19 patients.

“Mr. President, admit it, you’ve gone down the wrong path, ask for directions, ask for directions from the scientists,” Pelosi said at the Capitol on Thursday.

The Republicans had hoped that the pandemic would stop and the economy would recover to an extent within a few months. However, dramatic spikes in the daily number of new coronavirus infections across several states have been reported ever since the country started to reopen.

Presently, many states are resorting back to their original restrictions in terms of movement of people and the use of masks. Florida has emerged as one of the hardest-hit states in the U.S. with more than 10,000 new cases being reported daily.

“There were some that hoped this would go away sooner than it has,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on Wednesday during a hospital visit in Kentucky.“The straight talk here that everyone needs to understand: This is not going away.”

Mitchell is expected to announce a $1 trillion stimulus package early next week.
