Queen Elizabeth’s relationship with the other members of the royal family has been a favorite topic of royal followers. Although most articles about the royal family claim that Prince Edward is her favorite among the royals, the Queen also shares a close relationship with her other children and in-laws.

Sophie, Countess Of Wessex

According to royal folower Laura Warwick Martin, aside from Prince Philip, the royal family member who is closest to Queen Elizabeth is Sophie, Countess of Wessex.

Sophie is reportedly the Queen’s favorite daughter-in-law, and Queen Elizabeth just loves spending private time with her. Prince Edward, Queen Elizabeth’s rumored favorite child, and his wife Sophie, are most frequently in the company of the Queen and Prince Philip.

While Queen Elizabeth has always been close to Prince William and Prince Harry, she’s reportedly closer to the daughters of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson — Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

The reason Queen Elizabeth shares a very close relationship with her two granddaughters is that when Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson divorced, she made it a point to be always there for her grandchildren.

Prince Charles

Martin pointed out, however, that there are different kinds of closeness, and the kind of closeness that Queen Elizabeth shares with her son, Prince Charles, is different from the others. Although Prince Charles resented his mom for not being there for him as he grew up, he started to share a certain level of closeness with her as he approached adulthood because that was when he started to take his training as the future king more seriously.

Royal follower Hninzi Lwin likewise believes that Prince Charles is the closest to Queen Elizabeth. “Of all her children she has known him the longest,” she said. “Have gone through trials and tribulations together. Only she knows what it is to be heir to the throne. Together they share a destiny,” Lwin added.

Princess Anne

Another royal follower, Sharon Cummins-Royes, said that aside from Prince Charles, Princess Anne is also close to Queen Elizabeth. Like Prince Charles, Princess Anne also spent most of her childhood without her mother. As she grew up, however, she became one of Queen Elizabeth’s favorite confidantes.

“I believe she is the one who has her finger on the pulse of the nation and can report back to Her Majesty just what people are saying and thinking,” said Royes. “I also believe she is a great barometer of what is going on in the royal family and the extended family,” she added.
