Musicians and actors often use a different stage name for a variety of reasons, and some famous personalities are more known by their nicknames instead of their real names. Here are six celebrities whose real names are surprisingly different from their more well-known monikers.

Lorde

The music artist revealed that she chose Lorde as her stage name as it sounded so regal, which is understandable since she’s also into royalty and aristocracy. The decision is probably for the best since her real name — Ella Maria Lani Yelich-O'Conno — would have been quite a mouthful for fans.

Prince Harry

The Duke of Sussex is one of the most talked-about members of the royal family, especially with his marriage to the former “Suits” star Meghan Markle. But some fans are probably unaware that Harry is just a nickname as his real name is Henry Charles Albert David.

Charlie Sheen

Charlie Sheen is one of the most prolific actors that Hollywood has ever produced. He starred in “Platoon,” “Wall Street,” “Young Guns,” “Eight Men Out,” “Major League,” “Hot Shots!” and “The Three Musketeers.”

But most fans probably remember him for his role as Charlie Harper in CBS’ hit series “Two And A Half Men.” The show cemented his position in television as the highest-paid actor, earning a cool $1.8 million per episode in the series’ final season.

However, some fans might be unaware that his real name is not Charlie, nor is his surname Sheen. He is actually Carlos Irwin Estévez, while Sheen is just his father’s stage surname, whose real name is Ramon Antonio Gerard Estevez and not Martin Sheen.

Vin Diesel

Fans would swear that Vin Diesel is probably the ultimate action star. He played as the galactic criminal Riddick in the “Chronicles Of Riddick” films, as Xander Cage in the “xXx” movies, as well as Dom in the “Fast And Furious” franchise.

But Vin Diesel is actually named after saints in real life. He was christened Mark Sinclair Vincent, but he revealed that he had to cut it to a shortened version of his surname when he worked as a bouncer. The Diesel part suggests that he is full of energy, as in “running on diesel.”

Whoopi Goldberg

One of the most recognizable names in Tinseltown is Whoopi Goldberg. The Academy Award nominated actress starred in several number of films, most notably in the 1992 hit comedy-musical film “Sister Act.”

But it may surprise fans to know that the actress’ real name is far from the name she’s known for. She is actually Caryn Elaine Johnson and has an interesting story to tell how she got her screen name.

“If you get a little gassy, you've got to let it go,” she told New York Times. “So people used to say to me ‘You're like a whoopee cushion.’”

Lady Gaga

Fans would be glad that the pop superstar shortened her stage name to Lady Gaga. Her real name — Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta — would have been too long to pronounce.

Music producer and former boyfriend Rob Fusari reportedly called her Gaga after “Radio Ga Ga,” a song by the British rock band Queen. She is also a fan of the band’s vocalist, Freddie Mercury.
