Prince William And Kate Middleton’s Convoy Injured An 83-Year-Old Woman

A royal convoy carrying Prince William and Kate Middleton accidentally injured an 83-year-old London resident on Monday. The woman was seriously injured and was immediately taken to the hospital after the incident.

It was a police motorcycle outrider who was traveling alongside the vehicle where Prince William and Kate were riding on that hit and injured the woman. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were on their way to Garter Day ceremony at Windsor when the incident happened.

The victim was identified as Irene Mayor and was rushed to a London hospital for treatment. While Mayor’s injuries were described as serious, she is now in a stable condition. The accident happened on Upper Richmond Road in southwest London at 12.50 p.m.

The police officer who injured Mrs. Mayor was riding a marked police motorcycle, which was located in front of the Range Rover that Prince William and Kate rode on. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge did not notice when the accident happened but was only informed afterward.

Prince William and Kate already contacted Mrs. Mayor’s relatives. The duke also wanted to visit the victim at the hospital, but he deemed it too intrusive to do so at the moment as she is still recuperating. He plans to personally do so once she gives her assent to a visitation.

“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were deeply concerned and saddened to hear about the accident on Monday afternoon,” a Kensington Palace spokesman said. “Their Royal Highnesses have sent their very best wishes to Irene and her family and will stay in touch throughout every stage of her recovery.”

The incident was also confirmed by London’s Metropolitan Police. “At around 12:50hrs on Monday, 17 June, a marked police motorbike was involved in a collision with a pedestrian on Upper Richmond Road, Richmond,” the police said in a statement.

Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth’s husband, made headlines earlier this year when his Land Rover crashed into another vehicle that carried a nine-month-old child and two women. The Duke of Edinburg did not face charges for the incident but later decided to give up driving.
