Princess Beatrice of York will be tying the knot to longtime boyfriend Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi next year. The couple has been in the news ever since they publicly announced their relationship.

Now there’s another update on Beatrice and Edoardo’s wedding. If reports are to be believed, this royal wedding will go down in the pages of history for a crucial reason.

Initially, the couples were allowed to only include their fathers’ names and occupation on the marriage certificate. The rule has been followed since 1837, until recently when it was changed. Now the churches have passed a law that allow couples to include their mothers’ names on the certificate too.

If that’s the case, then Princess Beatrice’s mother, Sarah Ferguson, would be the first mother of the bride to be recorded at the royal wedding. The couple is expected to get married in 2020 at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor.

There are reports, however, that the princess and her beau had already tied the knot secretly during their visit to Italy. The duo went to Italy to attend a close friend’s wedding, after which they spent some time alone on a vacation.

It was around this time when Princess Beatrice and Edoardo was rumored to have tied the knot without the presence of anyone from the royal family. But while it is said that the supposed first wedding was a hush hush affair, the couple will have another lavish wedding next year.

Princess Beatrice’s engagement was announced on Sept. 26. “The Duke and Duchess of York are delighted to announce the engagement of Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice of York to Mr. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi,” read a statement by the royal family.

“Her Royal Highness and Mr. Mapelli Mozzi became engaged while away for the weekend in Italy earlier this month. The wedding will take place in 2020. Further details will be announced in due course,” continued the statement.

Meanwhile, Beatrice and Edo also shared their excitement over their wedding. “We are extremely happy to be able to share the news of our recent engagement, shared the elated duo,” they stated.

“We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can’t wait to actually be marrie. We share so many similar interests and values, and we know that this will stand us in great stead for the years ahead, full of love and happiness.”
