Brazilian superstar Neymar and French striker Kylian Mbappe at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have often been spotted at odds during team matches and recent reports stated that Kylian Mbappe wanted the French club to sell Neymar this summer.

However, the club’s Football Advisor Luis Campos has hit out at such claims as ‘fake,” Mirror reported.

The 58-year-old said that the Brazilian footballer was never close to bidding farewell. In an interview with RMC Sport, he said: "Neymar was never close to leaving PSG. Rumors on Neymar this summer were completely fake - also, saying that Mbappé wanted Ney to be sold is another big fake news. Neymar is 100 per cent part of our project."

In May 2021, Neymar, 30, signed a contract extension that ties him to PSG until summer 2025. His new contract includes performance bonuses, which will also get a massive bump if PSG wins the Champions League. His 2017 transfer from Barcelona to PSG stands as the most expensive ever at $263 million, which the French club paid in full ahead of his signing.

However, recent reports suggest that Neymar was unhappy at the club and was looking to quit this summer amid rumors over moves to Manchester United and Chelsea.

Campos added that "Neymar is a very good player, there is no doubt about that. And above all, everything I heard before about him, I must've listened wrong because he always arrives on time. I see a Neymar involved in the team project, in the club project,” reported Sky Sports.

It all started when Mbappe and Neymar were spotted arguing over penalties at the start of the season. Later in the season, the Brazilian was also seen getting frustrated when the French striker refused to pass him the ball for a clear open goal during PSG's Champions League clash against Juventus.

In the past, PSG's head coach Christophe Galtier has also denied rumors of a rift between the two players.

Meanwhile, Neymar and PSG have had a great start to the 22/23 season. PSG began their campaign by defeating Nantes 4- 0 in the Trophee des Champions final. He scored two of the four goals the team scored in that game. Neymar has scored eight goals from seven appearances for PSG in the Ligue 1 this season. He has also handed six assists in the league this season. PSG sits on top of the Ligue 1 points table with 19 points from seven matches.
