Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were criticized for using private jets in their recent travels. If reports are to be believed, even Queen Elizabeth II reacted to the ruckus caused by the royal couple’s actions and might have said a few harsh words to her grandson and his wife.

“She’s accused the couple of making a mockery of the monarchy, especially after Harry was called a hypocrite,” the American publication Star wrote. “She goes up to Scotland for a no-frills summer break and strongly believes that her grandson should follow suit instead of splashing out hundreds of thousands of dollars on mansions in Ibiza and the south of France like some A-list celebrity.”

Surprisingly, one of Harry and Meghan’s critics this time is the Duchess of Sussex’s own father, Thomas Markle Sr. Instead of supporting his daughter and son-in-law, Thomas even accused them of being “hypocritical.”

“I feel sorry for them in a way because they brought this on themselves,” Mr. Markle said. “You can’t say one thing and do another.”

But Mr. Markle doesn’t seem too overly concerned about private jet travel causing more pollution than commercial travel. He was more bothered about the fact that Meghan has not yet reconciled with him.

“Everyone raves about how gracious and wonderful they are, but they are not wonderful to their own family,” Thomas added. “That’s hypocritical.”

While Harry and Meghan initially chose to remain silent on the issue and relied on their high-profile friends to defend them on social media, the Duke of Sussex finally broke his silence. According to Harry, his main reason for opting to fly private is sometimes for the safety of his family.

“I came here by commercial,” Harry explained in a Q&A, which was posted on social media. “I spend 99% of my life traveling the world by commercial. Occasionally there needs to be an opportunity based on a unique circumstance to ensure my family are safe, and it’s genuinely as simple as that. But as I said in my speech, for me it's about balance.”

It’s all about balance for Harry. While he and his family might have traveled on private flights on occasion, he explained that he always makes sure to later offset the CO2 caused by his travels.
