Prince Charles will turn 71 years old in November, but he still hasn’t been crowned as king. Queen Elizabeth II is still the reigning monarch at the age of 93.

Royal fans are wondering whether or not Her Majesty is keeping her eldest son from ascending the throne by not retiring or abdicating. Some royal fans are also wondering if the Queen’s stalling has anything to do with Princess Diana and Camilla Parker Bowles.

Several years ago, Prince Charles was involved in a huge controversy regarding his romantic relationships. While he was still married to Princess Diana, he had an affair with Camilla.

Melissa Marshall said that there’s no question that the monarch was not happy with Prince Charles’ infidelity back in the day. This is also the reason why the Queen didn’t have a pleasant relationship with Camilla during the early years of her marriage to Prince Charles.

“She made it clear to Charles that even after he publicly started dating Camilla shortly after Diana died that the two young princes William and Harry were not to be photographed with Camilla,” she said. “I think any parent in her situation would have been majorly embarrassed at how seriously tabloid-frenzied two of her children’s marriage publicly imploded in affairs and eventual divorce,” she added.

But despite the Queen’s negative feelings about Prince Charles’ relationships, it is highly unlikely that she will use this against him on a professional level. As such, the Queen not passing on her duty to Prince Charles just yet has nothing to do with Princess Diana and Camilla.

Dafna Ross, on the other hand, said that the Queen hasn’t abdicated because she wants to make sure that Prince Charles would be king only for a very short time. According to the royal fan, the Queen prefers Prince William to be her successor, but this can’t happen because Prince Charles is her eldest son.

Jamie Harrison, a director of communications, said that the Queen previously vowed to reign until her death except in the case of decrepitude. This is the reason why Prince Charles hasn’t ascended the throne.
