Moments ago, Audi tweeted images of its latest R8 facelift and the new 542-hp 2013 Audi R8 V10 Plus.

Also featuring the Audi R8 V10 Spyder, the exterior revisions are relatively tame and for good reason: a refresh on the R8 is like further polishing a perfect gem.

For 2013, the Audi R8 will receive a redesigned headlight featuring an evocative stroke of LED daytime running lights. As for the grille, the previously rounder edges are now more sharply chiseled.

Mechanically, the complete range of 2013 model year Audi R8 sports cars will receive a 7-speed S-tronic dual clutch gearbox. Thanks to the upgrade that replaces the R Tronic single clutch unit previously offered, expect improvements in both 0-to-60 performance as well as improved emissions and EPA ratings.

The 424-hp 4.2 liter V8 is expected to sprint from 0-to-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.3 seconds. In V10 guise, the 518-hp R8 should reach 62 mph in 3.6 seconds, more than half a second faster. Finally, the king of the hill R8 V10 Plus is rated at 542-hp and makes a 0-to-60 pass in 3.5 seconds with the S-tronic gearbox.

Audi has already released R8 pricing figures in Europe but has yet to make announcements regarding the U.S. market. Based on a rough euro conversion, expect the V8 to start at $136,915 and the V10 Plus at $208,931.

Tune in soon for further details to be released on the new R8. In the meantime, check out the b-reel video and the select images below:
