Ronald Homer, a 29-year-old Atlanta Braves fan died Monday night after falling 65-feet from the upper deck at Turner field. The fall happened while the game was experiencing a rain dely. Shortly before 8:55 pm Homer fell to his death, landing in a parking lot.
The Atlanta Police Department issued a statement about Homer's fall saying, "On Aug. 12, 2013 around 8:55 p.m. officers responded to a person down call at Turner Field. Upon arrival officers located a male who appeared to have fallen from an upper level platform to a secured lot approximately 65 feet below. The male was transported to Atlanta Medical Center and died from his injuries. At this time there is no indication of foul play and the fall appears accidental."
CNN reports police in Atlanta believe Homer's death was an accident and will have to wait to learn if alcohol was a factor. The Braves' game was delayed two hours due to heavy rain. According to the Associated Press, witnesses saw Homer fall from the 400 level of the stadium. Witnesses also described the fall as accidental, but they also could not tell if it was because of the slippery conditions or alcohol.
Connie Homer is the mother of the deceased man. She told WXIA a CNN affiliate her son was attending Monday night's game with a friend.
"I'm just sick," Connie Homer told WXIA. "We're a very close family. He was big hearted."
This is the second falling death of a fan at Turner Filed since 2008, NBC reports. In 2008, a Georgia man fell down a flight of stairs at the ball park and later died. It is reported that the fan in the 2008 accident had too much to drink.
