In a surprising echo of statements made a few weeks ago by gymnast Ivet Playa, Spanish singer Nika said she allegedly began a personal relationship with Alejandro Sanz as a teenager, which turned romantic over the years.
"I met him when I was 15 in Puerto Rico," Nika told the Spanish press in interviews organized to promote her latest single,"Susi Okama." The artist indicated that her father was an employee of the Spanish airline Iberia, so she had traveled to accompany him, and they took the opportunity to see Sanz in concert.
His father knew Paco and Pepe de Lucía, who were there with Alejandro: "They said to me: 'Do you want me to introduce you to him?' And that's where I met him," he recalled.
"Many years later I started a relationship with him," she added, recounting that "I've gone to concerts with my family, I've brought him a demo, and I've told him I was going to audition for OT," although the reaction was terse: "How great, how lucky."
"Was your relationship with him always professional?" the Semana journalist asked her, to which she responded, laughing, with a terse "no." "And that's it. It's a topic I'd rather not talk about," she added.
What she took away from the experience is the fact that she has done her career "all on her own," which she says makes her success even more important.
The case of Ivet Playa
Nika's statements, although without apparent intention to cause harm, are similar to those made by Playa, who recounted that she met Sanz through social media when she was the same age, and that after joining his team to deal with his fan club, they formed a close relationship.
The Spanish artist admitted to the connection, although he later explained that Playa had tried to extort him into investing in several of his family's businesses in exchange for his silence.
Shortly after, it became known that Sanz and his team were considering suing Playa for defamation, but so far they have not made any official announcements.
For her part, Nika has tried to address the claims while avoiding any mention of romance, but social media has exploded with the news. She, for her part, insists the matter is closed and that she hasn't spoken to Alejandro Sanz for 13 years.
