Tennis champ Serena Williams expressed her gratitude after friend Meghan Markle flew from the UK to New York just to watch her play. Her presence, however, didn’t help Serena’s cause as she lost on a big game with her “bestie” in the crowd.

The 38-year old player described the Duchess of Sussex as “the strongest – literally – the strongest person” that she knows.

"She flew all the way with a newborn to see me play in New York and flew all the way back that night, and I probably couldn't have done that,” the former number one player said. “It just kind of goes to show you what an amazing person that she is, and that's just one of the many things that she does for me.", she added.

Williams also shared how close the two them are. “I call her, text her anytime, crying, upset—she’s always there. Doesn’t matter what she’s going through, she just sets time away, and she’s just so amazing,” People wrote.

The Duchess of Sussex’s presence may have brought joy to Williams but it was the exact opposite to the trainer. Tennis trainer Patrick Mouratoglu was believed to be superstitious according to The Sun report. It is not a definite conclusion on why Serena lost the game against Canadian teenager Bianca Andreescu.

Some blamed the Duchess’s presence in the game was the reason why the game didn’t turn to William’s favor. If not by superstitious beliefs, accusations of leaving the baby back in the UK just to watch a game from the other side of the world per Cosomopiltan post.

To clear things up, Royal Correspondent Rebecca English went to Twitter to explain what could have been a misinterpretation of Williams’ statements.

Despite Serena’s struggles in winning a grand-slam, expect the besties to be seen at the same venue to cheer up either one way or another.
