Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ marriage was a fairytale turned bitter. She was cheated on by her husband, but despite this, she didn’t really want their union to end.

Details have emerged stating that the princess wants her marriage to Prince Charles to remain intact, but she didn’t have a choice. Her close confidant divulged that she didn’t want a divorce, but the monarch forced her to agree to it.

The shocking revelation came to light when Princess Diana’s friend and trainer, Jenni Rivett, disclosed to the media that Prince Charles’ ex-wife didn’t think of divorce even when her marriage was already failing. She likewise explained that separation was not what the princess wanted even though her relationship with her husband was going downhill.

“She wanted to be the Princess of Wales, she wanted to be the Queen of people’s hearts, she wanted to be a good mother, which she was, and a good wife,” Rivett told Yahoo UK via the Daily Star. “She wasn’t the one who wanted to separate or have a divorce, it was sprung upon her. At the end of the day, it was Charles and Diana’s call but I can tell you right now it wasn’t what she wanted.”

Rivett insisted that Princess Diana still loved Prince Charles, and she could have done everything to fix their marriage and make it work again. She added that if the princess only had a choice, she would have chosen to stay and do her best to have a happy marriage.

Princess Diana’s butler Paul Burrell also said the same thing. In another report, he claimed that the princess had no intention of ending things with Prince Charles and shared how she reacted when Buckingham Palace sent the order for her to divorce her husband.

“For the children’s sake, I want to remain a family unit,” Express quoted Burrell as saying, repeating what Di told him at that time. But Queen Elizabeth stepped in and urged Princess Diana to accept the divorce order in December 1995.

The former butler relayed that in the letter sent by the Queen to Princess Diana, she told her that for the sake of the monarchy, the country and the Church, they believe that it would be best for her and Charles to divorce. He said that the princess was very furious after reading the note.

“This is my marriage, not theirs,” Burrel recalled Di as saying. “It’s nothing to do with the Church, its to do with me and Charles and the children.”

But sadly, in the end, the monarch won, and Diana yielded to the divorce. Princess Diana and Prince Charles’s marriage was officially dissolved in 1996.
