On Monday, Nov. 18, Episode 8 of Season 1 of the FOX series "Sleepy Hollow", entitled "Necromancer", is set to air. According to an episode synopsis from TV Equals, "Ichabod, Abbie, Captain Irving (Orlando Jones) and Jenny Mills (guest star Lyndie Greenwood) join forces and face the Headless Horseman. While staring down this nemesis, Ichabod is shocked by game-changing information about the Horseman's true motive." Time magazine calls "Necromancer" a "humdinger in terms of expanding the show's mythology" as Ichabod receives answers from the captured headless horseman - who has already been revealed to be Death, one of the biblical four horsemen of the apocalypse. We've also learned that the Headless Horseman - the Hessian whose head Ichabod cut off back during the Revolutionary War - cut open Ichabod's chest, binding the two, so that when Ichabod woke in the present day, so did the Hessian. Tonight's episode will reveal more about the Headless Horseman. "If you've managed not to try the show yet, it's as good a place as any to close your eyes, take a jump, and land bareback on the runaway stallion of its plot," writes Time.
Apart from being highly touted by critics - who at the season's start were often unsure whether to brand it ridiculous or good, and have largely settled on ridiculously good - Fox's new series has been doing quite well in the ratings. Within the first few weeks of the show's airing, the network extended an offer for a second season to the creators, with 13 episodes slated to be aired next year. DVRs have proven an especially useful tool in boosting their ratings, according to Entertainment Weekly. Ratings for the second episode, premiered on September 26, jumped 71 percent when DVRs were factored in: next-day ratings were 3.1 among adults 18-49, but went up to 5.3 after seven-day numbers came in. Forbes writes that a lot of that success stems from the show's active engagement with viewers. Actors have been tweeting about their characters and the show and answering fans' questions. The Forbes article also notes that Orlando Jones has been interacting quite heartily with fans via his Tumblr site where he frequently comments on the goings on both with the show and behind the scenes.
