Sofía Vergara is not ready to leave her homeland yet. “Thank you, Cartagena. I don’t want to go,” the Colombian actress expressed on Instagram earlier today after receiving the key to the city in the Caribbean town.

According to various local news outlets, the “Modern Family” star attended a ceremony hosted by the town’s Mayor, Manuel Vicente Duque, at the Santa Clara Hotel.

“Sofía’s humble personality says it all,” Duque told the press. “She was happy and delighted to be receiving the keys to the city surrounded by the Cartagena ambiance. She told me she had eaten arepa de huevo, carimañola and mote de queso.”

He added, “Sofía Vergara more than deserves these keys. She is a barranquillera that has put Colombia’s name up high.”

Although the 43-year-old Barranquilla native has refrained from commenting on her experience at the event, sources report she also signed the official guest book and thanked her fellow Colombians for the warm welcome.

“To my beautiful Cartagena and dear Mayor ‘Manolo.’” she wrote. “Thank you for taking good care of me and for keeping this city as beautiful as can be!”

Vergara reportedly travelled to Colombia the day after Mother’s Day to shoot a commercial for Águila beer in the Rosario Islands but because us Latinos love to mix business with pleasure, Mrs. Manganiello has taken every opportunity to enjoy her beautiful country.

She has posted fun photos of the local food, her Colombian friends, a wedding she attended, and even her delicious room service. “Breakfast in the room! #cartagena #nomequieroir (I don’t want to leave),” she wrote on Instagram.

Sofía has also taken the chance to spend some quality time with her son, Manolo González Vergara, and her niece, Claudia Vergara.

Sadly, hubby Joe Manganiello had to stay home. The “Magic Mike XXL” star is still recovering from appendicitis complications.
