The Songwriters Hall of Fame has just announced its slate of nominees to be voted upon for induction at its 2023 SHOF Induction & Awards Gala held on June 15, 2023, in New York City. Among those nominated are Blondie, Gloria Estefan, Vince Gill, Patti Smith, Sade, R.E.M., Snoop Dogg and many more. The nominees features an exciting list of talented acts who have had major influences on country, rap, broadway, pop, latin, new-jack swing and post-punk.

The Songwriters Hall of Fame was established in 1969 to honor those creating the popular music.The Songwriters Hall of Fame is dedicated to recognizing the work, lives and efforts of the composers and lyricists who create music around the world. A songwriter with a notable catalog of songs qualifies for induction 20 years after the first significant commercial release of a song.

The founders of the organziation, Songwriter Johnny Mercer along with publishers Abe Olman and Howie Richmond, wanted to shine the spotlight on the accomplishments of songwriters "who have provided us with the words and music that form the soundtrack of our lives." recognized by both the music industry and the media as the most important event of the year, annually the Hall of Fame inducts a slate of songwriters voted on by the membership at an Awards Gala. In this digital age, the Hall of Fame has put together an award-winning online museum to honor songwriters who have been inducted. This has become a leading destination for music industry professionals and researchers, along with popular music fans.

Eligible voting members will have until Wednesday, December 28 at midnight EST to turn in ballots with their choices of three nominees from a non-performing songwriter and three from a performing songwriter category.

According to Hollywood Reporter, some significant acts that are already in the hall include Paul Simon, Billy Joel, Carole King, Bruce Springsteen, Lionel Richie, Bill Withers, Phil Colins, Neil Diamond, Tom Petty, Elton John and Bernie Taupin, Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora.

The Songwriters Hall of Fame’s ongoing mission is to celebrate and honor the contributions and legacies of songwriters of all genres of music while developing and nurturing the next generation of songwriters through Master Sessions, songwriting craft forums, scholarships and digital initiatives.
