Sony has finally revealed the exact release date for the PlayStation 4. Sony PlayStation

Sony has finally given the PlayStation an official release date, November 15 for the U.S. market and November 29 in Europe. The news came at the very end of Sony's PlayStation Gamescom 2013 conference. Long Live Play indeed. Before today's official announcement of the PS4 release date, it was confirmed by Sony that the PlayStation 4 would come out "Holiday 2013." So this release date coincides with many reports that suggested Sony would release the next-generation PS4 around the holiday rush season.

The PlayStation 4 was first unveiled at Sony's E3 2013 press conference earlier this year. The console will retail for £349 / €399 / $399. Preorders for the PS4 have been performing exceptionally well. Many retailers like GameStop and Amazon have sold out and are no longer taking further preorders for the next-generation console. Sony also announced that when the PS4 launches more than 10 unique titles will be available for the next-generation console. Among the titles Sony also noted they would launch a trade in program for gamers wanted newer versions for the PS4.

Sony is planning discounts on key launch titles including "Assassin's Creed IV" and "Call of Duty: Ghosts" offered at a significant discount for the PS4 if a user already owns the PS3 version. The rival to Sony's PS4, Microsoft Xbox One, already announced that it would be releasing the Xbox One in November priced at $499, but the company did not give an exact date for the console's release. Gamers were hoping that Microsoft would give more details at Gamescom 2013, but during their presentation the company mostly focused on the games and confirmed the list of games to be available upon day one release of the Xbox One.

It seems that Sony has yet gained another advantage over Microsoft in the gaming wars. The PlayStation 4 will be launching in 32 markets this holiday season as opposed to the Xbox One which will only be sold in 13 markets. Sony concluded their press event at Gamescom with a little jab at its rival's dramatic about-face on many of the Xbox One's strict DRM policies.

Sony Computer Entertainment president Andrew House said, "While others have shifted their message and changed their story ... " House said, then paused after a few cheers from the crowd, smiled and continued. "... we were consistent in maintaining policies and a model that is fair and in tune with consumer desires."
