Tim Cahill fouls
Australia will need an inspired performance if they wish to beat the holders Spain without Tim Cahill Reuters

Spain meets Australia on Monday in a Group B World Cup matchup in what many consider a game that means nothing. The match is being played in Arena da Baixada, Cuiabá, Brazil. Both teams understand that the tournament is pretty much over for one another but both sides are committed to getting the win as both Spain and Australia want to avoid a winless tournament not to mention last place in the bracket.

A lot can be said about Spain and its lackluster performance at this year’s World Cup but the reality is that the team has not looked like itself and maybe it’s just time for some new blood to come into the picture which at this point is what is going to happen.

Expect Spain to give it one more swing but if things don’t open up well for Spain this could be a long afternoon again for the former reigning Champions.

Australia on the other hand will come out ready to go as the Socceroo’s have played with heart the whole tournament . Unfortunately, Tim Cahill, the Socceroo’s star forward will be out of the match due to a accumulation of yellow cards and this may hamper the attack of the Australian's.

I expect a good match from both sides but do predict that Spain will outscore the Australians in this match by one goal. I predict a 2-1 final score, with Spain winning.

My prediction: Spain wins 2-1
