When "Supergirl" returns for its second season, National City will be a lot more crowded. Aside from Superman, the series is seeking to cast five new major roles including Lex Luthor's sister, a metahuman detective and more.

TV Line gives some details regarding the new additions to "Supergirl" Season 2, three of which come right from the comics. See all the characters below.

  • Lena Luthor - Lex’s sister is described as a young woman in the 25-35-year-old range. She arrives in National City to escape from under the shadow of her infamous brother. She is described as sexy and smart and determined to get what she wants.
  • Nick Farrow - He is a “brash leading man” who butts heads with Kara at CatCo. Farrow is a journalist and son of a famous reporter. Farrow is looking to make a name for himself and In hanging out with Kara, the hero in Nick "might finally come out.”
  • Maggie - The comics-inspired Maggie is an out and proud detective for the newly formed Science Police, which deals specifically with metahuman and alien threats. Maggie appears to be a version of Maggie "Maggs" Sawyer from the comicbooks. The character is a longtime Gotham City Police Officer and is best known for her long-term relationship with Batwoman.
  • Snapper Carr - A former Justice League sidekick in the comics but an “old school” reporter in the Catco news division.
  • The Doctor - A mysterious character who is the villainous female lead scientist on Project Cadmus (who could be the comicbook character Serling Roquette).

With the introduction of The Doctor in Season 2, it appears that the "Supergirl" plotline will explore Project Cadmus.

Meanwhile, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed Superman will make an appearance in "Supergirl" Season 2. Kreisberg shared the news in a statement saying he and the production team are thrilled to bring Clark Kent to the series.

"Greg [Berlanti], Ali [Adler] and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of 'Supergirl,'" said Kreisberg in a statement. "Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season and we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!"

"Supergirl" stars Melissa Benoist, Calista Flockhart, David Harewood and Chyler Leigh and will return Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on The CW this fall.
