In a rather harrowing instance of what seems like decades-long captivity; the Stockholm Police are investigating a 70-year-old woman who allegedly locked up her son for 28 years in an apartment south of the Swedish capital.

The authorities were summoned after a relative of the 41-year-old son found him in an indigent condition surrounded by “urine, dirt, and dust” and admitted to a hospital for the treatment of gnawing physical injuries. The case was opened after a relative decided to pay him a surprise visit to his flat on Sunday, only to find the main door unlocked. Upon entering, she stated that the place “smelled rotten.” However, he refused to divulge details into what type of injuries the victim has.

Emma Olsson, the prosecutor who’s helming the preliminary investigation, reportedly maintained that the senior citizen was held on "the grounds of suspicion of unlawful deprivation of liberty and grievous bodily harm." The mother has outrightly refuted all claims pertaining to the allegations.

The relative, whose identity has not been revealed, spoke with a local newspaper. Based on her account, the man held captive “had no teeth, had sores on his legs and his speech was slurred.” She further averred that he was sitting on blankets and pillows. “He spoke very fast and a little incoherently, but he was not afraid of me,” added the relative.

The daily maintained that the man's apparent captivity had started 28 years ago, when he was approximately aged 13.

While not much has been revealed about the case’s proceedings; Olsson stated that her team of investigators will summon the mother, the son, and witnesses for an incisive understanding into the accident.
