Teen Girl Arrested After Snapchat Video Shows Her Stealing Necklace From Dead Man

A Texas teen has been arrested after she was seen on Snapchat stealing a necklace from a dead man.

The teen, identified as 17-year-old Bethany Martin, and a friend, who has not been named, found a man’s body in a drainage ditch near the intersection of Sunday Song and Charismatic in Southwest Bexar County of San Antonio on Monday, July 26.

Instead of calling the authorities, the girls called a friend who alerted the police, the arrest affidavit obtained by KSAT stated.

According to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office, the 25-year-old man had hanged himself to death. There was visible discoloration throughout his body, Bexar County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) officials said.

However, on Tuesday police received two videos from an anonymous person.

In one video, Martin and her friend can be seen near the man’s lifeless body. In the second video, Martin is seen removing a chain and medallion from the dead man’s neck, according to an arrest affidavit.

An investigator from the BCSO identified the teen girls as the witnesses at the scene of the body.

During interrogation, Martin told investigators that she took the necklace and pendant from the man’s body because her friend liked it.

She said she gave the pendant to her friend and threw the chain into the grass.

Martin’s friend, who has not been named because she is a juvenile, told deputies that she recorded the incident on her Snapchat.

The minor girl told police that she put the pendant on her own golden necklace because it "matched her fashion style," the affidavit states.

The girl handed over the pendant to authorities, who returned it to the de man’s next of kin.

Martin was arrested Tuesday and charged with theft to a human corpse or grave. Bexar County Jail records show that her bond was set at $2,000 and has since been released from jail.

The juvenile was also charged with theft to a human corpse, according to BCSO.

The authorities have not publicly identified the deceased man. The reason behind his decision to kill himself is also unclear at this time. An investigation is underway.
