A teenager was allegedly spurred to commit suicide after her father scolded her for excessively playing mobile games on Sunday, Oct. 3, in Hyderabad, India.

The deceased, identified as Kaushika Reddy, an intermediate second-year student from a private college, allegedly hung herself from the ceiling fan with a rope after her father, Manohara Chary, got angry at her for playing mobile games. The incident happened in their residence at the Sarvodaya Nagar Colony under the Meerpet Police Station limits in Hyderabad, India, Telangana Today reported.

Chary had reportedly warned his daughter a few times against the excessive usage of her phone, particularly for playing games. On the day of the tragedy, the girl allegedly got into a heated argument with her father after he scolded her for her mobile game habit. He then asked her to have dinner and go to bed early. However, the girl, in a fit of rage, reportedly proceeded to storm to her bedroom and decided to commit suicide, Times of India reported.

“The father and daughter had a brief heated argument over it, during which, the girl suddenly rushed to her room, latched the door from inside, and hanged herself from the ceiling fan with a saree. Her family members forcibly opened the door and shifted her to the hospital, where she died later under treatment,” a police official said.

The girl's body was transferred to the Osmania General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. The incident is under investigation to ascertain no foul play, the Meerpet police station officials said.
