A sleepy neighborhood was awoken by the screams of two schoolgirls who discovered their father murdered. Police arriving at the scene found the victim hacked and beaten with a hammer to death.

The man’s older daughter confessed to being a part of the murder plot of her father. She told the police that her classmates killed the man as he had been sexually assaulting her. Police have initiated an investigation into the incident.

The 46-year-old victim from the north Indian state of Bihar had been residing in Bengaluru, Karnataka. He had married a woman from Kalaburagi, Karnataka and had two daughters aged 17 and 11 with her. The family lived in the Attur Layout area of the city.

Over the weekend the mother-of-two had gone to her hometown leaving her children with their father, Times Now reported.

On Monday, Nov. 22 night around 1:30 a.m. local time, the two daughters alerted their neighbors of their father being attacked. They claimed that some unidentified men had attacked the father.

Yelhanka New Town police arrived at the scene of the crime shortly after the neighbors were alerted. They found the man in a pool of blood. They believe that he was beaten with a hammer and hacked to death. The victim was declared dead at the scene. The police initiated a murder investigation.

Police questioned the older daughter who confessed to playing a role in her father’s murder. The high school student told the police that her boyfriend and three of his friends were the ones who attacked her father.

She also revealed that her father, whose name has not been disclosed, had sexually assaulted her. Having been sexually assaulted, the teen claimed that she had shared her sorrow with her boyfriend. This led him to take the help of his friends to attack the man.

Based on the teenager’s confession police took four minor boys into custody, Time of India reported. They also recovered the murder weapons. The accused teenagers, as well as the girl, will be produced in front of the Juvenile Justice Board for further legal proceedings.

The girls’ mother returned to the city once she was notified of the incident. Police questioned the woman who corroborated her daughter’s claim of sexual assault. It is unclear why she left the daughters in her husband’s care despite being aware of the abuse.

Police continue to investigate the incident as well as the sexual assault claim.
