
During last night's presidential debate, Mitt Romney was quick to attack Barack Obama for his administration's subsidies for green energy companies. Calling out "underperforming" companies including Solyndra, Fisker, and Tesla, Romney threw a jab at Obama's decision: "I had a friend who said, 'You don't just pick the winners and losers; you pick the losers."
Famous Indian writer Vanshika Anand once said, "Success is the best revenge," and that is exactly what Tesla aims to before year end. According to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, the company expects to report a positive cash flow by the end of November.
Start-ups suffer their share of growing pains and Tesla was no different. That said, the introduction of the new Model S sedan is expected to raise Tesla's reputation from electric car boutique to full-blown automotive manufacturer. Initial sales estimates for the second quarter pegged Tesla Model S delivers to hit 500. However, supply constraints caused Tesla Model S delivery to slow down. Only 359 Model S vehicles were manufactured, 250 of which delivered.
Nontheless, Musk is extremely confident with Tesla's future. Regarding the loan Tesla had received from the Department of Energy, Musk said, "Tesla has never asked for or even hinted at postponing repayment of the loan... Tesla has always made its DOE payments on time."
Beyond any metric, the best sign of a good automaker is its ability to create a truly great automobile and many journalists and owners alike believe Tesla has produced exactly that. As Tesla Model S production finds its stride, output will become high enough to meet its growing demand. Only in June did the Tesla website announce that the whole lot of Tesla Model S Signature Series models were all sold-out.
