In a shocking video that has now gone viral on the internet, a mother was seen dangling her son from the ninth floor of a residential building using a bedsheet to fetch her saree that had by mistake fallen from her balcony to the eighth floor.

The distressing video shows the boy holding on to the bedsheet and dangling from the high-rise building in India's Faridabad while his mother and other family members try to pull him up.

According to local media reports, the incident happened at an apartment complex in Sector 82 of Faridabad. The video was reportedly shot by a resident in the opposite building.

Neighbors said the woman put her son’s life in danger to get her fallen saree back. In the original video, the person behind the camera can be heard saying there would be nothing left of the boy if he falls down from that height.

“Appalled to see this video of a mother from #Faridabad!” IPS Officer Dipanshu Kabra captioned the video on Twitter.

“Heights of carelessness, insensitivity & irresponsibility. She has no right to risk her kid's life,” the officer wrote.

The video garnered more than 16,000 views with shocked netizens expressing their thoughts in the comment section.

A user wrote: “Thanks for bringing this to attention sir but I feel the authorities should book the woman for criminal negligence as this act is against the right to life of a minor. He could have died here, IMHO it's putting someone's life to threat, society notice isn't enough!”

“Her sari must be really expensive than her kid's life... Sad,” another commented.

“Heights of stupidity,” wrote another.

“No synonyms of carelessness can justify this action from a mother!!! Did the neighbors around(including the one with the camera) try to stop this nonsense?”

According to local media reports, the housing society has issued a notice to the woman regarding the entire episode. It is unclear if the mother was charged by the police.
