Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently made headlines when they revealed that dealing with the British tabloid press has been problematic for them. But, media scrutiny aside, fans can’t help but be a little concerned due to some other things about the royal couple’s marriage.

For instance, there were previous reports that Harry’s grandfather and Queen Elizabeth II’s husband, Prince Philip, might be against his grandson marrying Meghan. “One steps out with actresses, one doesn’t marry them,” the Duke of Edinburgh reportedly told Harry, according to Express.

While the grandfatherly advice might sound a bit blunt, Philip might have made it because he was just genuinely concerned over the union’s long-term prospects, according to Nicki Swift. It’s not exactly a secret that most marriages between Hollywood celebrities tend to be short-lived and, seen in this light, Philip’s remarks were probably made because he worries about Harry’s long-term happiness.

There were also reports that Prince William might have felt that Harry’s decision to marry Meghan might be too fast-paced. Compared to Kate Middleton and William who dated for years before tying the knot, Harry and Meghan only dated less than a year before deciding to get married.

Unfortunately, William’s well-meant advice might have even caused a rift between the brothers. “And being close to Harry, you know, probably the only person close enough to say to Harry, ‘This seems to be moving quickly. Are you sure?’ And I think what was meant as well-intentioned brotherly advice just riled Harry,” author Katie Nicholl said on the documentary “Kate V. Meghan: Princesses at War?,” according to Fox News.

However, it was never confirmed whether William made those comments or not. Even if he did, he only said those things because, as an older brother, he did not want Harry to get hurt if the marriage went south.

Meanwhile, a royal family fan posted a query on Quora that basically questioned if Harry’s decision to marry “actress from a popular TV show to marry in order to come out from under his brother, Prince William's shadow.”

However, Chris Hawkes, one of the site’s users, believes that Meghan being a popular actress had nothing to do with Harry’s decision to get married. “He chose Meghan Markle because he loved her. And she, him,” Hawkes responded to the question.

Perhaps there’s some truth to the saying that marriages are not made in heaven. What makes a union work is the dedication to make it work and the perseverance to overcome any obstacle that might crop up along the way. With Harry and Meghan’s undeniable love for each other, they just might have what it takes to make their union last.
