Why Prince Charles’ Relationship With His ‘True Soulmate’ Was ‘Killed Stone Dead’ Before Engagement

Prince Charles once dated a woman who he thought was his true soulmate. Unfortunately, their fling ended even before it began.

In the book “The Firm,” royal author Penny Junor explained how Prince Charles and Davina Sheffield’s budding relationship was cut short due to a cruel twist of fate. The future king and Sheffield were linked to each other in 1976.

“She seemed ideal in so many ways, and they appeared to be very much in love,” Junor said. “But she already had a boyfriend when Charles met her, an Old Harrovian and powerboat racer named James Beard. Davina initially rebuffed invitations to have dinner with the Prince, but he was so persistent that she eventually succumbed and the boyfriend soon fell by the wayside,” she added.

But following Prince Charles and Sheffield’s dinner, their photos and the story about their affair made headline news. The future king was reportedly tricked into talking about their relationship. Shortly after their affair made headlines, Prince Charles and Sheffield’s relationship ended abruptly.

The heir to the throne and Sheffield were introduced to each other by Prince Charles’ younger sister, Princess Anne. Sheffield also happened to be the granddaughter of Lord McGowan and is also related to Samantha Cameron.

Sheffield’s relationship with Prince Charles was not the only thing that ended after it made headlines. Years ago, the future king dated Princess Diana’s older sister, Sarah McCorquodale.

While the couple was still dating, Lady Sarah agreed to sit down for an interview with Mirror reporter James Whitaker. To the journalist’s surprise, Lady Sarah was so candid about her and Prince Charles’ relationship.

“Sarah was disarmingly frank about her boyfriend and declared she would not marry Charles ‘If he were the dustman or the King of England,’” Whitaker said. “That was good news from where I was sitting and Sarah seemed delighted I was so keen to share it with the nation,” he added.

Unfortunately, Lady Sarah’s shocking revelations did not sit well with Prince Charles. After the royal heard her interview, he decided to end their relationship.
